New Hires

We’re ecstatic you’ve decided to join the team and help build the future of cloud data. We know you’ll have a lot of information thrown your way when you start, so we want to make enrolling in your Snowflake benefits as simple as possible. This page will help you cut through the noise and take necessary action.

2024 Benefits GUide

Eligibility

Confirm you’re eligible to enroll before you begin—regular employees and interns working at least 20 hours per week are eligible to enroll in our benefits. Learn more about benefits eligibility.

New hire enrollment period

New hire coverage begins on your date of hire if you enroll within 31 days of becoming eligible. If you miss the enrollment deadline, you’ll need to wait until the next Open Enrollment (the one time each year you can make changes to your benefits for any reason).

The sooner you enroll, the sooner your benefits will be active.  Generally speaking, if you enroll in benefits by 10:00 p.m. PT on your first Tuesday, your benefits will be active by Friday evening.  Once your benefits are active, you can access your ID cards and member information online.  Please find each carrier’s website or app on our contacts page.  Kaiser enrollments can take up to 7 days to process.  If you need to seek care before your benefits are active, contact a benefit advocate at snowflake@alliant.com.

Prepare for Enrollment

Once you feel ready to enroll, make sure you have the right information available. Collect the date of birth, Social Security Number (SSN), and address for each dependent and/or beneficiary you wish to include in your benefit elections.

What you need to do

When you’re ready to enroll, visit our enrollment platform, Empyrean, to make your elections.

Some benefits require a manual enrollment or opt-out, and others require no action from you. Here’s a breakdown:

Enroll in or waive coverage for:

  • Medical
  • Dental
  • Vision
  • Health Savings Account(HSA)
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
  • Commuter benefits
  • Voluntary Life Insurance

You’re automatically enrolled in:

  • 401(k) Plan*(not available to Intern employees)
  • Basic Life and AD&D (company-paid)
  • Short-term disability
  • Long-term disability

*Eligible employees will be enrolled in the plan automatically at a 5% contribution rate after 30 days of employment. Log in to your Fidelity 401(k) account to change your contribution rate.

If you’ve come from another employer, you may need to provide some information or take the following items into account while making your elections.

  • 401(k): Report your prior contributions from a previous employer’s 401(k) plan to payroll/benefits with the prior contribution form. Also, please take into account the annual IRS contribution limits when setting up your contributions to Snowflake’s plan—your previous contributions and your contributions at Snowflake both count toward the IRS limits.
  • Health Savings Account (HSA): Note the IRS annual contribution limits—if you’ve already contributed to an HSA this year at your previous employer, be sure to factor that amount in when you’re setting your new HSA contributions.
